You make a good point about executive compensation, where most of HR has &quot;sold out&quot; to their own self-interest.  Personally I&#039;d like to see more of a balance.  I can acknowledge the importance of HR sitting at the Sr. Management table, but they shouldn&#039;t forget their original role.  If they do, then they&#039;ve actually weakened their value to the organization.  When the employees turn away from HR at that point you really have a human factor problem.

Interesting views.

If we believe that HR is the ethical barometer in organisations, then concur that we may be &#039;throwing the baby out with the bathwater&#039;.

I also think organisations get the HR they deserve. Just look at response of the HR community to the debacle surrounding executive compensation  - talk about being &#039;embedded&#039;. 

You will probably find purists on both sides, with the rest in the messy middle. 

My take is that when I do my HR scorecard each night, I look to see that I did the least amount of harm.
